What is sports physiotherapy?

Sports physiotherapy focuses on preventing and treating sports injuries and on safely returning to your sport. Whether you run, cycle, play football or train in the gym, we analyse the cause of your injury, treat it with hands-on techniques and build a progressive training plan matched to your sport and level.

Who is it for?

  • Acute injuries: sprained ankles, muscle tears, knee injuries
  • Overuse injuries: runner's knee, shin splints, Achilles tendon pain
  • Athletes preparing for an event, from 5K to marathon
  • Anyone whose injury keeps coming back

When to book sports physiotherapy?

Wondering whether it is 'bad enough' for the physio? In these situations an appointment is worthwhile, no referral needed:

  • An acute injury: swelling, sharp pain or giving way during sport, the sooner assessed, the better the plan.
  • A niggle that keeps returning: every time you build up, the same spot starts protesting.
  • Performance stagnation with discomfort: you cannot train the volume you want without paying for it afterwards.
  • An event on the calendar: you want your body screened and niggles fixed before the big day.

From injury back to sport in three phases

We start with a short intake about your complaints and goals, in plain English. We look at your load and recovery (work, sport, sleep, stress), test which movements provoke your complaint, and decide together whether this treatment adds value for you. You get a clear explanation and a concrete plan for the first weeks, and treatment starts the same appointment.

The sports we see most in Eindhoven

Eindhoven's international community is an active one. We treat many runners and cyclists, footballers from company and student teams, padel and tennis players, boulderers and gym athletes from the city's many fitness clubs.

Because we combine sports physiotherapy with dry needling, medical taping and in-house ultrasound imaging, you get diagnosis and treatment under one roof, in English, without waiting weeks for a scan.

What results can you expect?

The honest measure of sports physiotherapy is not 'pain gone' but 'back in the game and staying there'. That is why every return here runs through objective tests: strength within ten percent of your other side, confident jumping and landing, sport-specific movements at full speed.

Athletes who complete a guided rehabilitation have a significantly lower re-injury risk than those who return on feel alone. And because we address the cause, training errors, strength deficits, technique, the injury that 'always comes back' usually stops coming back.

Costs and insurance

Physiotherapy is covered by your supplementary (aanvullende) insurance, depending on your policy, and it never touches your deductible (eigen risico). Many expat and international insurance plans cover physiotherapy as well. Bring your insurance details to the first appointment and we check your coverage together, before any costs surprise you.

Adults (18+)

  • Sessions are reimbursed from your supplementary (aanvullende) insurance, the number depends on your policy.
  • For chronic conditions on the official list, the basic insurance covers from session 21 onwards (sessions 1–20 via supplementary insurance or self-paid); a doctor's referral is required for chronic status.
  • Physiotherapy never counts towards your deductible (eigen risico), except basic-insurance COPD care.

Children up to 17

  • With a chronic indication, physiotherapy is covered from the very first session by the basic insurance.

Preparation and aftercare

What to bring

  • ID (first appointment) and your insurance details
  • Clothes you can move in, think shorts or sports gear for hip and knee complaints
  • A short history of your complaint: when it started, what worsens it, what eases it
  • Any medical information: referral letter, scans or earlier reports, if you have them
  • No special preparation needed, a water bottle is always a good idea

After the treatment

  • Follow the adjusted training schedule, it is calculated to protect the healing tissue
  • Muscle soreness after rehab training is normal, sharp pain is a signal: report it
  • Sleep and nutrition are part of recovery, we happily advise
  • Keep the test milestones: they decide the next training step, not the calendar
